Welcome
Tangier Airport

(February 24, 2008)
Location Information
Nice little airport with unfortunately no service. Make sure you have enough fuel going there to go back to the closest airport with fuel service.

  • FAA Identifier: TGI
  • Lat/Long: 37-49.508333N / 075-59.866667W (estimated)
  • Elevation: 5 ft. / 1.5 m
  • Airport open to the public
  • Washington sectional chart
  • No Control tower
  • No Fuel (as well as nothing else)

Runway Information
The airport only has one runway in fair conditions. The last time I checked it also had a VOR/DME or GPS 02 approach but that cannot be used at night (the runway is not lighted).

Other information regarding Tangier Island airport runway inlcude:

  • Runway 2 / 20 - 2,950 ft x 75 ft
  • Asphalt in fair condition
  • Uneven pavement on 02 side
  • Faded markings
  • No lighting
  • No taxiways

Refer to the AFD and proper instrument approach charts for additional information.

Overview
Tangier Island airport is located on the West edge of the island with the end of runway 20 on the beach (after a few additional feet of runway overrun). As you can see on the aerial view, the airport is walking distance to anywhere on the island (even though bikes or golf carts can be rented).

The information provided may be estimated and is only valid at the time of the article. Do not use the data provided for any navigational purposes (but I am sure any pilot knows that!)

Short final on Runway 02 at Tangier

From the author: Long enough for a light twin such as a Seminole though bumpy on the 02 end.
